First 5 months in review.

Just a few days old:)

When Aubrey was born and shown to me and George for the first time, we immediately commented how beautiful she was!  That's what I remember very clearly.  I also remember that once I held Aubrey with her diaper off near my husband and our dog Taco and it resulted in both of them needing a shower.  That was the end of Aubrey hanging out without her bum covered. On June 27th, Aubrey went shopping for the 1st time, because mom and dad needed a diaper pail for the amazing amount of diapers Aubrey was producing. She "shopped" at Lowes in her baby bjorn. At 3 weeks old, Aubrey made it to the dog park, as her older brother Taco was going crazy at home.  Apart from these memorable events, the first month was a blur, and I don't remember much rather than changing diapers, breastfeeding, sleeping only from 3 am to 5 am and constantly wondering how we lucked out with such a beautiful baby.  I also wondered how people raise kids by themselves without grandmas around, as Aubrey's grandmas Julie and Sofia were so much help!  Aubrey was a "talkative"( read gassy, I guess ) baby and would moan and groan even in her sleep:)

1 month old with grandma Sofia.

The second month was not that much different.  I figured out that we actually are capable of raising a baby, as grandmas had to go back home.  Aubrey went to her first party to celebrate a one year old Milana's birthday and successfully slept through it.  She smiled in her sleep and still ate and pooped a lot:)

2 months, getting ready to go to the airport to see daddy off for his business trip!

The third month is the month when I actually got more than 2 hour sleep at a time and therefor I remember more than just an overwhelming feeling of love for our baby and a -just as strong-feeling of longing for a nap.  Aubrey started smiling.  I have to admit, though, that she smiled at her daddy more than at me and still does.  It is amazing how much your baby's smile can do.  After an hour of crying and being fussy, all Aubrey had to do was to give us a 3 second smile and we would declare that crying, lack of sleep and a pile of dirty diapers were all worth it, after all.  She went to bed by midnight.  Her favorite toy became a pink glow worm by PlaySkool, the one I was planning to throw away.  Aubrey still loves it and it is a great tool to get her to smile while taking a picture.  Actually, when we went to Sears to take pictures, and that glow worm was the only thing that kept her interested in the whole ordeal.  Aubrey's grandma Julie and Aunt Pat visited her in September. Aubrey went shopping with the whole family a lot. She was very patient, while everybody shopped and slept almost all the time in her bjorn.

3 months, wearing mommy's first dress!

The forth month!! Where did the time go? Aubrey loved sucking on her fingers, shoved her hand in her mouth and occasionally enjoyed sucking on her thumb. She smiled and giggled. She also loved and still loves baths.  We started giving her rice cereal, but she had a reaction to it, so now she eats oatmeal instead and seem to enjoy it.
Aubrey got to travel to Illinois on October 6th and met her uncle Gary for the 1st time as well as attend a wedding of Steve and Annette (her dad's uncle and a new aunt).  She was great on the plane and cried very little. We did, however, appreciate us packing an extra set of baby clothes for the plane, just in case. It turned, we needed them:)  Grandma Julie made her  giggle for the first time! It is so addictive to hear your baby laugh!
October 9th, 2010 - almost 4 months old!

When Aubrey turned 5 months old, she commemorated the occasion by putting her toe in her mouth. What an accomplishment:) I am sure she was very proud!  She finally stopped being extremely upset about tummy time.  I have to give credit to her grandma Julie for that. When she came to visit us, she played with Aubrey and showed her how to play on her tummy, even though, Aubrey protested a lot in the very beginning. In the end, she actually can spend more than 5 seconds on her tummy without screaming her head off and I think, secretly, enjoys it.  Aubrey is learning how to grab things and started "reading" or should I say "editing" magazines, by tearing the pages out of them.  I suspect that she picks out the least interesting articles and saves us time by pre-editing our reading:)
Getting ready for Black Friday on her 1st Thanksgiving:)

Oh, naps!

Where do baby books get babies that nap 2.5 and 3.5 hours a day? Do you have to put in a special order for them in the hospital before you deliver? I am more and more convinced that this is the way it's done! I was definitely out of the loop at the time and no order was put in! As a result, my baby does not want to nap more than 20 minutes by herself, plus, maybe additional 20-30 minutes, when I am laying there with her. The rest of the time, the world is too much to miss:)

I went to the library and got a book on baby's sleep that has 800 or so positive reviews on Amazon.com: " Healthy sleep habits, Happy child ". It states that you should try to put your 4 month old to nap 2-3 times a day and the first two naps should last about 2 hours. If Aubrey's naps lasted two hours that would be so great! In fact,  I think, that those naps are what I am going to ask Santa for Christmas this year! I am not upset that she doesn't nap and I get no time for myself, I am upset because she seems exhausted a lot, and I know something should be done!

The book also states that the 1st nap should occur between 1-2 hours after the baby woke up. It is true that Aubrey can be put to bed within that time frame, but she does not sleep for 2 hours. I think the longest she slept this week was 30 minutes.

Since we are trying to cry it out for our night time routine with some success, I decided to try the same for naps. I am so losing this nap battle... I fell like the worst mom out there! I am torn between picking her up and not letting her cry which will result in an overtired child or let her cry and cry myself by the door! So hard!!!!!

The books do omit a lot of things, such as what do you do if they fell asleep after CIO and then woke up 15 minutes later and they need a 2 hour nap? Let them cry? Pick them up? No answers!! They just assume as soon as the baby falls asleep, it will stay asleep for 2 hours. I wish they did not make those assumptions! I found myself to resent the books and everybody who is eager to give me sleeping advice. What do they know?

All I know that it seems like my baby is just like me, and I hated naps! So, after all, I am not going to get my Christmas wish granted this year:)
